Terri Fortner is a local business woman and a nurse practitioner with a private practice in Farmington. She has served San Juan County and the State of New Mexico in various roles for many years. Terri currently serves on the Four Corners Economic Development (4CED) Board of Directors and was appointed to its Foundation Executive Committee.
A passionate advocate for health and wellness, Terri served on the San Juan Regional Medical Center Board of Directors where she helped oversee San Juan Regional Medical Center and address the ongoing health needs of San Juan County citizens. Terri also served on the New Mexico Board of Nursing and chaired that board for four years. She was involved in many important rule making decisions that affect nurses and the health of all New Mexicans and chaired meetings that decided appropriate discipline for nurses that violated the New Mexico Nurse Practices Act. Terri currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor at San Juan College, training local student nurses.
Terri formerly worked as an operating room and emergency department nurse at San Juan Regional Medical Center. She then worked as a school nurse for Farmington Municipal Schools, serving the children of Farmington citizens. Terri also worked in the San Juan County Detention Center managing the psychiatric medical needs of inmates and seeing firsthand the affects of drugs and alcohol on the mental health of inmates Terri is now in private practice as a nurse practitioner.
Terri is married to Jack Fortner, a local attorney and former member of the San Juan County Commission. They have two children, Suzanne Cervantes, a wife, mother and lawyer, married to Joe Cervantes. Suzanne and Joe have two children; and Krissy Fortner and her husband Jerom Ronny who are both employed in Farmington, NM, Terri is the proud grandmother of Lola and Max.
In 2009 Terri was recognized as one of the Outstanding Women in New Mexico, by the Governor's New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women.
In 2009, Terri was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for demonstrating excellence in scholarship and exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing.
In 2013, The University of New Mexico recognized Terri's involvement in her community and the state when she received the 2013 Distinguished Alumni award given by the UNM
Two years later, in 2015 the University of New Mexico College of Nursing recognized Terri, as “one of the outstanding alumni for the 60 years that the University Of New Mexico College Of Nursing has been existing”.
